What a great weekend

Success! I got my bear and we caught plenty of Halibut. Although I was hoping to catch a King Salmon to round out my trip, I was not dissapointed. I did hook one, but it snapped my line.
We went out everyday Halibut fishing and in the evening we camped on a cliff in Sadie Cove, Alaska; Ten miles from Homer, Alaska; 220 miles south of Anchorage and 10 hours south of Eielson.
We saw hundreds of sea otters. They catch crabs on the bottom of the ocean and then they bring them to the surface and use a rock to break them open on their bellies. Bald Eagles were also everywhere. It was awesome to be fishing and watch them dive and grab a fish and take it to a tree or cliff and eat it.
Once the rest of my pictures get developed, I'll put them on here. I leave June 10 for Maryland and will be on leave for a week and a half in N.C. and Florida. I then will be at an Editor's Course at Fort Meade, Maryland, from June 21-July 21. If anyone wants to visit me during this time, let me know.
Until next time,

Well...I did it. I shot my first bear! I got him on Sunday evening around 8:30 p.m. in Sadie Cove, Alaska. My buddy Patrick shot a bear about a mile from here on Friday night and we had seen about 6 other bears that weekend, but they were up in the mountains. I did climb up after two on Friday, but after an hour of treacherous climbing we saw no sign of the bears and had to descend. This bear was about a mile from where we landed our boat and I stalked him through three rivers and high grass. He weighed about 250 pounds and measured in at 5'10". The average size for a bear in this area is 5 feet.  Posted by Picasa

Here is a picture of me with my buddy Patrick and my bear. Patrick lives in Homer, Alaska, and was nice enough to take us out Halibut fishing and bear hunting.  Posted by Picasa

I'm off

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go...
Wish me luck everyone. Tomorrow I endeavor on a 700 mile trip south to Homer, Alaska. I'll meet up with a friend of mine who lives down there and together we are going to hunt for a black bear. He has an 18ft boat and we will go out in the bay and look for bears that have just come out of hibernation and are eating the grass on the beach and salmon from the ocean. This will be my second hunting trip. My first trip I bagged a caribou up north. I hope I'm as successful this time. If I get my bear in the first day or two, we will fish for halibut and king salmon. Should be an overall awesome trip. I'll be taking lots of pictures and of course, you'll see them posted here. So, pray for a safe trip and a safe hunt. I'll be back on Tuesday. Dad, when you come up here we'll go up north and hunt for some caribou.
Dan Adams, let me know when you're planning on coming up here and visting. I'll show you around and let Jen teach you how to catch a fish.
Papa Cobbs, I need a skilled veteran hunter to show me some tricks. Let me know when you're planning on coming up here.

Gavin likes to do his impression of superman. He holds himself straight out. He's got some strong abs.  Posted by Picasa

May 13 - We went to a carnival on base. Gavin enjoyed cotton candy, a bouncy castle and got his face painted. His hair is another story. :) Posted by Picasa

Yours truly. We pulled about 7.5 G's ( that 7.5 times the force of gravity). Talk about the best roller coaster ride ever. We were flying at about 10,000 feet and then we dropped down to about 900 and he would drop one of his bombs and then we had to pull out as quick as possible b/c the shrapnel flys about 1/2 mile in every direction.  Posted by Picasa

Here's another shot of an F-16. He was about 15 feet from us flying at about 450 miles an hour. Posted by Picasa

I took this picture on my F-16 flight April 20. They were dropping Mark 84 2000lb bombs.  Posted by Picasa

Agressor F-16 aircraft from Nellis AFB, were here for RED FLAG - ALASKA. RFA is a two-week long exercise that allows new pilots to train and simulate real combat missions.  Posted by Picasa
